The immersive techno explorations of Sebastian Mullaert meet Anchorsong’s idiosyncratic beats and vintage African influences, with hypnotic results, on “Gyotens Kalimba (Sebastian Mullaert & Wa Wu We Remixes)”.

With its thick forest of sounds – ethereal kalimba threading its way among low, pulsing bass, snatches of vocal texture and slivers of high pitched synth – it is clear to see why “Gyotens Kalimba” caught the attention of deep-thinking and free-spirited Swedish producer Mullaert, a lifelong music-maker whose studio is ensconced among the mystical surrounds and primeval energy of an ancient forest in his home country.

On this digital double A-side package, revered creator Mullaert approaches the original via two different musical aliases. The epic “Gyotens Kalimba (Sebastian Mullaert Intensification)” spins the track into a deep, dancefloor-orientated odyssey that reflects and channels Mullaert’s belief in dancing as an essential meditative and freeing practice.

The mysterious Wa Wu We moniker is where Mullaert truly shakes off all convention, allowing himself to express more abstract, instinctive and strange sounds; the delicate, immersive and emotionally affecting “Gyotens Kalimba (Wa Wu We Simplification)” is testament to this ethos of pure musical freedom with no set boundaries.

Recently snapping up a Number 12 debut position in the Resident Advisor Top Live Acts poll, Sebastian Mullaert has found himself the subject of an increasing level of attention and demand; with a range of diverse and exciting projects on the horizon, the talented producer is gearing up for some big announcements. This all builds on serious props across the electronic music press (including interviews and mixes for the likes of XLR8R, Mixmag, RA, Data Transmission and beyond) for his previous work – an impressive canon which includes solo outings and collaborations, including the acclaimed duo Minilogue, on labels such as Hypercolour, Crosstown Rebels, Cocoon and Wagon Repair.
